Learning about Farm Safety

2nd Oct 2019

This week Alma from AgriKids visited our school. 1st Class, Senior Infants & Junior Infants met together and learned so much about keeping safe on the farm. We learned about the safety signs to look out for and what they mean. How to keep safe around tractors and big machines and animals and even how we can tell what mood some animals are in by their ears! We all knew the bull should be avoided but many were surprised to learn a cow protecting her calf is just as, if not more, dangerous! We had a lovely story which reminded us that the farm is not a play area and children should never ever, go out on the farm by themselves. We learned why slurry tanks and pits are so dangerous. We also learned a rhyme to say while washing our hands after we have been on a farm. Lots of children made great contributions and shared what they already knew about Farm Safety and three children took part in demonstrations and did a fantastic job. Well done to all! Take a look at some photos from our lesson below.
