Digital Learning Update
I know some of you are eagerly waiting the digital classroom to help add some structure to your day. We are all working hard to make sure it is up and running soon.
There are things you can do at home to help set up for DL if you like.
- Make a work area in the house or have a work basket full of the work materials for your child. This will help them understand that school time has started. It will also make it easier for them to focus on their assignments before they head back to play.
- Have their materials - copy, colours, pencil, eraser, laptop/ipad/phone/desktop, ready and in this special work area
- Using a scrapbook, or the mesh wallet I sent home to keep a track of the work they do during the closure. This will motivate them to try their best as they will want to be proud of any work they keep.
- If there are a few children in the house using DL all at the same time earphones may help. But if like many you are sharing resources between a few children, setting up a timetable for each child will help avoid fights over access and to make sure that the DL puts as little stress on your household as possible.
The Junior Infant class is different to other classes in that they can't read all the instructions on their own and work away themselves and we can't tell them how to do something new and expect them to understand straight off the bat. Often they have to be shown how and work with something for a long time before they can grasp the full learning behind it. This is why we will be mostly focusing on revision to maintain learning and giving them activities to do on and off their Digital learning device!
In the future I hope to set up a drop day where I can hand out new packs, copies and work to help you all as the weeks go on. But for now our work will be completely through digital means
There will be lots of websites or games I will be asking you to sign up to or download. If they are a part of an assignment they will be free. If I see anything I think would benefit that does cost money I will post it but it will not be apart of their DL assignments. Many companies have been amazing and have opened up their sites for the crisis, like Bua Na Cainte A - Our Irish programme. Below are instructions on how to download the programme to have it ready for our Digital classroom.
